This statement has represented Sharp’s core philosophy since 2004. For over a decade, the company has demonstrated these are not empty words.
Sharp was the first manufacturer to receive the EU Ecolabel for a TV set and thanks to their energy-saving characteristics, nearly all Sharp copiers and multifunctional printers carry the respected Energy Star label.
In the past few years alone, over 300 Sharp products have received international awards for their outstanding eco-friendly design, demonstrating our commitment to producing environmentally friendly products which in turn enable us to achieve our aim of becoming an environmentally advanced company.
So much of the technology we all rely on today is the stuff of writers’ and scientists’ imaginations a decade ago. Our progress is astounding. And with this progress comes responsibility.
For every step forward we must consider our footprint. Individuals and large corporations alike, from the smallest local action to far-reaching global initiatives, we all have a duty to reduce our impact on the environment.
We all share the same planet /This is Why we’re making our products greener, every step of the way.
Each of us has a responsibility for protecting the environment. And to do that properly, we all need environmentally responsible suppliers. After all, your organisation is only as green as your supply chain.
This is a philosophy that Sharp has adopted worldwide; an ethic that’s central to our culture.
So as well as managing our own product development, manufacturing and business operations in an environmentally conscious way, we encourage our suppliers - and, by implication, their suppliers - to do the same.
From early product design to manufacturing, right through to end-of-life disposal, every area in which we directly or indirectly affect the environment is under constant scrutiny.
All of our factories and most of our offices meet the ISO 14001 standard: a framework that sets out the requirements for environmental management systems. And we actively encourage environmental management and green awareness initiatives throughout our entire organisation.
Our engineers are continually developing innovative ecological technologies to make the world a cleaner, greener place and we place a firm focus on manufacturing high quality, environmentally advanced products.
Sharp’s ‘Green Product Guidelines’ govern the entire lifecycle of every single product that we produce. We strive for low energy consumption, reduced waste, less packaging, better recycling and products with a longer life.
As an inventor for society, Sharp began pioneering solar technology way back in 1959. Today, our solar technology can be found in homes, farms, factories, solar parks and public buildings around the world. And that’s just one area of our expertise.
Where appropriate, our products make use of long-life LEDs which consume only tiny amounts of electricity and can last up to 40,000 hours.
We’re continually developing lighter and thinner LCD TVs and our latest printers and MFPs are our most energy-efficient yet.
We also produce a range of energy-efficient fridges, microwave ovens, air conditioners, and air purifiers with Plasmacluster Ion technology. Plasmacluster Ion technology recreates the natural process that purifies the air in the Earth’s atmosphere to remove dust, pollen, unpleasant odours and various mould spores.
